I went solo interrailing through Europe for the first time this summer, although this is a separate story.⁠
⁠
For a few days, I was just going. Going and going. But when my train entered Interlaken, it suddenly felt different. Like I finally arrived. Like I wanted to stay. ⁠
⁠
So I stayed, in Balmer’s for a few days. I (sometimes) fall in love with places and this time it was a red hostel in the middle of the Swiss Alps. Something was telling me it was where I wanted to go, and it was right, it was where I wanted to be. ⁠
⁠
Meeting many amazing, creative, and talented people. Going out of my room to brush my teeth and heard the sounds of (incredible!) piano playing downstairs. People jamming on guitar in the common room or outside. Having conversations on a bench in the evening, in the middle of the Swiss Alps. Talking without rest the whole hike up and back down. I loved it to my core.⁠
⁠
One time I was just standing, fully immersed in the sounds of the instruments. And during that moment, I felt satisfied, for it felt like the whole journey would have been worth it just for that.⁠
⁠
After 5 days, it was time to go. As the journey had to continue. But during those 5 days, I felt at home. There was a special feeling to Balmer’s that wasn’t to be found in any other place. And I understood then, it was the feeling I wanted to seek.⁠

An (overwhelming) love for life.⁠
