A day trip to Schilthorn

While visiting Switzerland you will want to go on top of one of those mountains surrounding you everywhere. The eternal snow and the purity of the air make it an incredible experience.
Schilthorn is the top of a mountain in the Swiss Alps. The summit reaches 2970m  above sea level and is situated near Lauterbrunnen and Mürren.
Once you arrive on top, the views are exhilarating. It offers you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have a glimpse of the Swiss Skyline namely Eiger, Mönch, and the Jungfrau.

It is one of the most famous attractions to do while visiting the Jungfrau Region and a great opportunity to spend an amazing day on the top of a mountain. There you will also find a "Revolving Restaurant" where James Bond 007 was filmed in 1969!

You will be surprised by all the activities you can do during this journey.

How to get to Schilthorn?

The first thing everybody should know is how to get to Schilthorn. It is not easy to reach the top but it is all worth it! To book your trip up, CLICK HERE

Different options to reach Schilthorn:

#1. Access to the village of Mürren and the Schilthorn summit is impossible by road. To get there from the valley, take a series of cable cars, the first from Stechelberg to reach Gimmelwald and Mürren. Since Mürren's second cable leads to Birg, where a third joined the Schilthorn. It is a little bit long but you will enjoy spectacular views.

#2. Another way to reach Mürren is to take the cable car from Lauterbrunnen up Grütschalp and then the train to Mürren or a 1-hour easy hike with majestic views.

The top of the Schilthorn

Once at the top of the mountain, the view is breathtaking. Just remember that you will be high in altitude and the temperature can be colder even in summer so make sure to bring a jacket. There you will be able to see for miles around. Just walk around and take a seat to admire to fantastic panorama.

You can also take the stairs down the side of the mountain and walk along the edge, you will have amazing views. But be careful if you are afraid of heights, there are a couple of places where you can walk on clear plexiglass instead of the metal catwalks, to see the mountain spilling out below. On the Schilthorn Ridge, far from the summit hustle and bustle, three spacious loungers invite you to linger. With spellbinding mountain and lake views stretching to the horizon.

The James Bond Museum

The Schilthorn - Piz Gloria is made even more popular because one of the James Bond Movies was filmed here in 1969. There is a 007 museum on the top, as well as an outside walkway with the cast from "Her Majesty's Secret Service", which was filmed on-site.

If you are a James Bond enthusiast, this is your dream come true and, if you are not, you will be one by the time you leave. Even the bathrooms carry on the Bond theme.
