What is the Tent Village?
The tent village offers relaxed-style accommodation/camping with private doubles, quad, and dormitory walk-in tents. From the Tent Village, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the Swiss Alps sitting in the jacuzzi, a hammock, at the bar, in the pool, or simply stretched out on the grass. We offer a very informal and chilled atmosphere and is best suited for those who love nature and outdoor life.
A great idea from a great man
In 1990, the first planning and the first permit negotiations for the Tent Village were conducted. Erich Balmer's vision and goal were to open the Tent Village in 1993. Two major events took place that year. The first Jungfrau Marathon and the Alphirten Trachtenfest Unspunnen.
Every bed in the Interlaken region and Balmers Hostel was fully booked, so the opening of the Tent Village was a great success with even more extra beds for the two big events and the increasing youth tourism.
The authorities of the community of Matten as well as the government town holder supported Erich Balmer with his Tent Village project for the future.
The Tent Village, is a place to celebrate
In the spring of 1995 we celebrated 50 years of Balmers and Erich Balmers 50th birthday in the Tent Village with many friends, acquaintances, and locals. The celebration became a special highlight with great media coverage.
Three years later, Balmers Tent Village was expanded with Bike-Tents. Tents for two, four, and six people were ideal for guests with bikes.
Erich Balmer received special praise for the celebration of Independence Day on July 4, 2000, in the Tent Village. This day was the record day: Balmer's Hostel and the Tent Village together accommodated 527 guests.
Over the last 20 years, the Tent Village has been a great success from May to August.
The Balmers Tent Village brand remains an Erich Balmer vision forever.
The end of the Tent Village
After 30 years the Contractual Tent-approval is unfortunately no longer valid, therefore a new approval procedure will be submitted in 2021!
