All you need to know about Balmers Hostel
HOW WE ROLL
Unlike those massive chain hostels, Balmers Hostel is family-owned and operated. For three generations, the Balmer family has kept the magic alive, ensuring the vibe is just as warm and welcoming as it was in the beginning. You might meet Erich Balmers during your stay. He is always happy to speak with guests and will tell you all about Interlaken.
Our staff comes from over 10 different countries, which means you’ll get a multicultural experience right here at the hostel. Whether it’s housekeeping, reception, or the bar team, everyone’s committed to making sure you have an amazing stay. And if you’re looking for insider tips or recommendations, you’ll find plenty of seasoned travelers on the team who are happy to help.
RECEPTION
Our reception isn’t open 24/7, but you’ll never be without help—staff are always around, even at night, to ensure everything runs smoothly. If you’re planning your itinerary, need hiking tips, or want to book adventure activities, our reception team has got you covered. During the winter, we also sell ski passes to make your trip even more convenient.

Check out by 10:00 AM by bringing your bed sheets, fitted sheet, and pillow cover to reception. Leave your magnet on the bed frame so we know you’ve checked out, and drop your key at reception or in the basket provided for early departures. - Check-In Details:
Check-in starts at 4:00 PM, but if you arrive later than 10:00 PM, don’t worry! Your key will be waiting at reception, and our night staff are always there to help.
Remember to bring your passport or national ID (Europeans only) to reception during opening hours. Beds aren’t pre-assigned, so pick your favorite, place your magnet, and make your bed to claim it. - Arriving Early?
Leave your luggage in the 24/7 storage room. A small fee in CHF cash applies, but free storage options are posted at reception.
OUR COMMON SPACES
At Balmers, we’ve created a variety of spaces where you can kick back, meet fellow travelers, and unwind after a day of adventures. Whether you’re in the mood to cook, relax, or play, we’ve got the perfect spot for you.
- Kitchen: Let’s face it—eating out in Switzerland can be pricey. That’s why our fully equipped kitchen is a lifesaver for budget-conscious travelers. It has stoves, ovens, microwaves, and all the utensils you’ll need to prepare anything from a quick snack to a gourmet meal. Important: the kitchen is closed for cleaning daily from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM.

Our semi-outdoor hammock room is perfect for chilling solo or with friends. With comfy hammocks and giant hanging nets, it’s a great spot to unwind. Keep in mind that it closes at 10:00 PM to maintain quiet hours.
- Living Rooms: We’ve got three cozy living rooms across two buildings, complete with sofas, tables, and fireplaces. These spaces are ideal for working, hanging out with friends, or just relaxing after a long day.
- Instrument Room: Love music? Play the piano or guitar and start a jam session. Don’t be surprised if other travelers or staff join in!
- TV Room: Perfect for movie nights or catching that must-see match. The TV is equipped for screen mirroring—just follow the instructions or ask reception for help.
- 뒤뜰: A sunny space for lounging, playing games, or connecting with fellow travelers. Here, you’ll find the bar, BBQ area, and jacuzzi. Quiet hours start at 10:00 PM, so plan your activities accordingly.
- Jacuzzi: Taking a dip in our jacuzzi is a must! It’s free to use, but you’ll need to sign up at reception. This isn’t for reserving a spot but to help us monitor usage for legal and sanitary reasons. Don’t forget to shower before hopping in—your fellow travelers will appreciate it.
- BBQ: Ready to grill? Grab your ingredients from Coop 혹은 Lidl and enjoy a BBQ with your new friends. Check with reception first, as some nights are organized as part of hostel activities. Be sure to clean up after yourself for the next group.
- 야외 바: Open most evenings during summer, our outdoor bar is the perfect place to grab a drink after a day of exploring. During winter, opening days may vary, so check with reception for the latest schedule. When the temperatures drop, we move the bar indoors to keep the good vibes flowing.
- Balmers 클럽: Yes, we have a club! Parties happen weekly (more often in peak season), exclusively for hostel guests. From games to wild dance-offs, this is where the night comes alive. Keep an eye on the events board at reception for the next party.
