Visit Interlaken for free
Looking for a budget-friendly way to explore Interlaken? We’ve got you covered! Here’s how to spend an action-packed day without paying a cent (well, aside from food and accommodation – we’re not magicians).
*Free Transportation Hack*
Interlaken’s transportation can be pricey, but your Guest Card is your golden ticket if you're staying in town. It covers most bus routes in Interlaken and nearby areas for free! Sadly, it won’t get you to Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald, but it’s perfect for exploring the town and its hidden gems. Want to know all the perks? Check out our blog post Cómo aprovechar al máximo su tarjeta de huésped de Interlaken for the full scoop.
Morning: Conquer Harder Kulm
Start your day bright and early, fueled and ready for some uphill action. Your first mission: Harder Kulm, Interlaken’s iconic viewpoint. The hike starts near the funicular station and takes about 1.5 hours up with a 700m elevation gain. Yes, your legs will hate you, but the reward is 100% worth it—panoramic views of Interlaken, both lakes and the snowy Jungfrau peaks. Feeling extra adventurous? Set your alarm for an early morning start and catch the sunrise—it’s magical! The way down is quicker (around 1 hour) and much easier on the legs.

Midday: Chill and Explore
Back in town, take some time to recover. Stroll through Interlaken’s charming streets, watch paragliders land like pros at Höhematte Park, or check out the historic Monastery and Church next to the park. Perfect for some low-energy exploration before your next adventure.
Afternoon: Hike to Giessbach Falls
Once you’ve recharged, hop on bus 103 from Interlaken Ost to Iseltwald (free with your Guest Card). This picturesque lakeside village became Insta-famous thanks to a Korean Netflix drama. From here, follow the lakeside trail to Cataratas de Giessbach, a stunning 14-tiered waterfall where you can even walk behind the cascades. The hike is flat, scenic, and easy to follow, with clear signs guiding you to the falls. Round trip, the hike takes around 3 hours, but allow extra time to explore the waterfall area. Don’t forget to check the last bus schedule to make it back to Interlaken.
