Where to go cliff jumping in Interlaken?

Looking for a thrill? There’s an awesome cliff-jumping spot on Lake Thun that’s perfect for a mix of fun and a little fear! Whether you’re a first-timer or a pro jumper, this is your chance to test your courage!

This adventure is organized by our hostel only during peak season, but if you miss it on the day, don’t worry! Here’s all the info you need to tackle it solo.

LOCATION AND HOW TO GET TO THE STARTING POINT

The spot isn’t accessible by foot, so you’ll kick off your adventure by Kayaken from Interlaken. The journey starts in Neuhaus, which you can easily reach by hopping on bus 21 from Interlaken Ost or West (don’t forget, it’s free with your Interlaken Guest Card!).

Lake Thun Cliff Jump Interlaken Switzerland

Once you launch from Neuhaus, paddle to the right and stay close to the shore. Keep an ear out for passenger boats—they pass every hour or so, and you’ll hear their horn. It’s about 45 minutes to an hour of rowing each way, depending on water conditions. As you paddle, you’ll notice a road running alongside the lake that eventually dips into a tunnel. That wall dropping straight down into the lake? That’s your target!

When you reach the spot, there’s a small rock ramp where you can leave your kayak. To your left, you’ll see numbers marked on the wall showing jump heights, going up to 14 meters! Climbing higher than 8 meters can be tricky without the right shoes, but the first 4 meters are easy to climb, with a rope and some rods to help you reach the 7-meter mark.

RENTALS AND PRICES

Unless you’re the type who travels with a kayak (and honestly, respect if you are), you can rent kayaks or SUPs from Mountain Surf Interlaken, which is right next to the Neuhaus parking area.

Kayak activity cliff jumping

Rentals cost 25 CHF per hour for single or double kayaks, with an additional 10 CHF per hour. SUPs are priced the same, while a three-person tandem starts at 40 CHF per hour. Bring an ID or credit card as a deposit.

Plan for about 3 hours total: around 40 minutes to an hour each way for paddling, and an hour for as many jumps as you can handle. You’ll pay based on the time you spend out, so if you end up staying a little longer, no worries!

BBQ SPOT

Want to make a day out of it? Just a few meters from the jumping spot, hidden among the trees, is a fantastic BBQ area with a grill. Pack some snacks, invite some friends, and enjoy a full day of cliff jumping, lake views, and good food.

SECRET SPOT (FOR THE PROS ONLY)

For the daredevils out there, there’s a high spot for jumping that’s not for the faint-hearted. From the BBQ area, follow a narrow path that leads to a rock wall. Head left to find rods on the wall and a chain at the top for a little extra help. Fair warning: the first rod is high, so you might need a friend to give you a boost.

SPECIFIC WARNINGS

  • Watch for Boats: Passenger boats cross the lake regularly, so stay alert to avoid any close calls.
Secure Your Kayak: Anchor your kayak well on the rocks—when boats pass, the waves can easily drag kayaks back into the water.
  • Weather Check: If there’s a storm, lights along the shore will start flickering. When you see this, head to the nearest shore ASAP.
  • Bleiben Sie hydriert: You’ll be out in the sun, and the paddle can be tough. Bring plenty of water.
Rental Tips: The rental place will give you a quick briefing on safety and best practices.
