Balmers Hostel is the perfect "base camp" location to go hiking in the region.
I arrived in Interlaken Ost, and once you head up the road a bit, you'll start to see signs for Balmers, which is helpful. On arrival, I was greeted by a really friendly member of staff, and at first glance, it was very clean, very tidy, and had a really nice cozy feeling to it, very homely. Check-in was easy, paid, got my key, and was advised where the different parts of the building are.
I stayed on 2 different nights, the Thursday and the Monday, so the first night I didn’t take advantage of the kitchen and instead eat in the pizza place opposite. I was in a room with 4 beds, it was just out of season so at first, I had the room to myself, but then around 11 another person joined me, obviously no problem at all, just be aware that people can arrive at any time.
The rooms are very clean, have a sink, mirror, handwash, and good lighting and the beds are pretty comfy. The shared toilets and showers are also very clean, convenient, and well-used at all hours, so my next tip is def take a good eye mask and even better ear plugs. It's to be expected, it is a Hostel, but you will help yourself with these 2.
On the second night stay, I walked from Lauterbrunnen back to Interlaken and stopped by a small shopping centre, picked up some food for my evening meal and breakfast this really is a good thing to do, the meals and drinks in Switzerland are shockingly expensive, please take this advice and think ahead with your meals and drinks.
The place is very chilled out, very cozy, very friendly, it’s not a youth club so please do your best to look after the place, i.e., clean up after yourself, respect the other guests there and try and keep the noise down. I will be going back and using Balmers again and forgot to say on the second night I had my own room, which was great, but obviously, costs dictate.
Overall, I loved the place and can’t fault it in honesty
