Hostel in a great location with a lot of character. Puts you in easy access of a lot of activities and staff always have good recommendations. Along with this the environment at the hostel is lively and welcoming, partly due to the staff (shout out to my guy joyel) and the activities offered.

My second time here and I loved it just as much as the first! Super fun staff and atmosphere. Joel was a gem so make sure you say hi to him if you visit! He also makes a great mulled wine. I’ll definitely be back!!

We had a great stay at Balmers. The atmosphere was great & welcoming and the staff were amazing especially Joel who made our stay extra special. He was very funny and made sure that we were happy and welcomed every day! He went above and beyond to ensure I had a great time - also love his mulled wine :)

This place was great. Joel was the main man at the desk for my stay and he is truly a gem. He builds welcoming community, he is funny, and he makes you want to stay. If you go to Balmers you shouldn’t sit there on your phone go make friends everyone is super friendly and if you are having trouble finding people find Joel.

The bus stop is close and the cooperative is also close. The shower in the bathroom was small because it was renovated in January 2025, but the facilities were good. There is nothing to do because it is a hostel, but everything was fine, except the roommate's smell too strong.

Backpacked around Europe and stayed at Balmers over Christmas on a whim. Best part of the whole trip, hands down. Definitely going back. rooms are nice, staff is hard working, and they have community events like every night. Can't sing this place's praises any higher.

I love Balmers Hostel so much I don’t want to leave! They have scheduled things to do in order to socialize with other travelers which is so fun. The rooms are great, the whole thing is like a cozy Swiss chalet, a lot of things to do inside, and nearby the main train station going to different cities. We met the owner casually, Mr. Balmers while talking at the table then gave us a bottle of Prosecco.

Nice hostel. Very large common areas and kitchen. Friendly staff. Rooms were okay, pretty clean. The beds feel a little bit narrow. Lots of showers and bathrooms. All in all a good hostel.

Cool and nice hostel! The kitchen and bathroom are clean. Sharing spaces are cozy and in local style. The staff here are really kind . For the transportation, it’s near bus stop, 10 mins bus to Interlaken west.

Who is Balmers Hostel ?

We are the oldest and most fun hostel in Switzerland! We are situated in three traditional Swiss wooden chalets that surround a courtyard, terras, and garden. The look and feel of our accommodation can best be described as playful, comfy, and unique.

What time is check in and check out?

Check in starts at 4 pm/ Check out is until 10 am. On check out we kindly ask you to bring down your bed sheets as well as duvet covers and pillow covers.

I'm arriving really late, will I still be able to check in?

Yes, but you’ll have to check in online. We’ll then prepare your keys so that you can get to your room after reception closes.

How do I get to the hostel from the train station / bus station?

By bus:
From the Interlaken West station take the bus number 105 and get off at the stop Hotel Sonne. This takes 5 minutes
From the Ost Station take the bus number 104 and get off at the stop Hotel Sonne. This takes 5 minutes
We are about 30 meters from both stops. Bus fare is Sfr 3.80 per person. Busses start running from 07.00am till about 20:30pm.once you arrive at the hostel we will provide you with a free bus pass for your convenience and for the remainder of your stay

Walking:
It takes about 20 minutes from both stations
From Interlaken West station – turn left out of the station and follow the main street, turn right at the traffic circle just after Mc Donalds all the way down. Stay on the left hand side of the road and walk straight until you see brown signs pointing to Balmers. Follow these signs
From Interlaken Ost station – exit straight out of station, between the bank and the Coop shopping Centre, straight through two traffic circles, and follow brown signs to Balmers.

You can also get a taxi for about 15 chf from either train station.

We have three major airports, Zurich, Geneva and Basel

Do you offer breakfast?

Unfortunately not! But we do have a guest kitchen and a bakery + supermarket which are on less than 2 min walk from the hostel. Read more about breakfast
